Well, to begin with, if you are a Tik-Tok fan, you must be happy. Madras High Court has removed the ban from your favourite video-sharing app, Tik Tok. Earlier this month, Madras High Court has ordered the government to put a ban on this app.
The reasons were simple. The app was causing harm to the minors by introducing them to inappropriate content such as porn. Its online chatting feature was also exposing its users (especially minors) to become a cyber victim.
But according to the trending news, HC has lifted the ban from the tik tok and fans can easily enjoy sharing their creativity with the rest of the world.
But why HC removed the ban?
After a petition got filled, on April 3, Madurai bench of Madras High Court had placed a ban on this Chinese video sharing app. Petitioner was concerned that the app is circulating inappropriate content. Not just this but the app was also exposing its users to the threat of becoming a cyber victim.
Also, you must have already heard about the various incidents in which kids died while filming some stupid tik-tok challenge. The app does seem to cause harm to the youth.
Though, officials at tik tok don't agree with it and called all the accusations just the exaggeration of the petitioner. Not committing to their faults, officials at tik tok challenged the Madras High Court's decision at the Supreme Court.
After hearing both the parties, the Supreme Court decided that HC will take the final call. During their hearing, Senior Advocate Isaac Mohanlal who was appealing for the Chinese company told the bench that the app has a perfect mechanism in place that can restrict the adult content to get published on the app.
Yesterday, Madurai bench of the high court took its final decision and revoked the download and use of tik tok in the country. Fan's are pretty happy, ready to make viral news by making Tik-Tok videos once again.
But what if it didn't work? Anything government can do?
India is not the first country to ban tik tok. It is already banned in several parts of the country, the US also has a particular Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. This act makes sure that innocent kids won't become the victim of a cybercrime.
Tik Tok might already have this special technology to filter out the inappropriate. But if they already have it, then why they didn't use it already? And what if their mechanism won't work. In case no such technology is found, it will be considered as the contempt of court.
Other than that court has also asked the government to introduce a Child Online Privacy Protection Act to make sure everything stays under control.
